Blood Tests
Blood tests have a wide range of uses and are one of the most common types of medical test.
For example, a blood test can be used to:
- Assess your general state of health
- Check if you have an infection
- See how well certain organs, such as the liver and kidneys, are working
- Screen for certain genetic conditions
Most blood tests only take a few minutes to complete and are carried out at your GP surgery or local hospital by a doctor, nurse or phlebotomist (a specialist in taking blood samples).
Dermatology
Mole Check: Single pigmented mole
Submit an online request (preferred) and the triaging GP will either reassure you that the mole/lesion is harmless or they will book you into the photodermoscopy clinic. If you don't have a smart phone then please call our reception team on 020 8246 4070 and they can schedule a photodermoscopy appointment.
Advice on monitoring your moles can be found on the Cancer Research UK website
Heathbridge Practice is commissioned to assess individual skin lesions and rashes.
Routine Mole mapping and full body skin checks are not services offered in NHS general practice clinics. There are private skin and mole clinics that offer these. It is not always covered by private medical insurance and frequently has to be self funded.
Other Dermatological Issues (eg rashes, pink patches, non-pigmented lesions)
Submit an online request (preferred) and the triaging GP will either advise on treatment or schedule you into Dr Allen's skin clinic. If you don't have a smart phone then please call our reception team on 020 8246 4070 to be booked into the skin clinic.
Immunisations
NHS Vaccinations
The overall aim of the routine immunisation schedule is to provide protection against vaccine preventable infections.
Find out about vaccinations available on the NHS & privately (e.g. for travel):
Flu Vaccination
The flu vaccine helps protect against flu, which can be a serious or life-threatening illness. It's offered on the NHS every year in autumn or early winter to people at higher risk of getting seriously ill from flu.
COVID-19
The COVID-19 vaccine helps protect against COVID-19, which can be a serious or life-threatening illness for some people. It's usually offered on the NHS in spring and early winter to people who need extra protection from COVID-19.
Book, change or cancel a COVID-19 vaccination appointment:
Shingles
From 1 September 2023, the vaccine programme is being offered to the following:
- healthy people aged 70 to 79 years who have not yet been vaccinated
- people aged 50 years and over with a severely weakened immune system
- healthy people aged 60 to 70 years will become eligible for the vaccine over the next 5 years, when they turn 65 or 70 years
You will remain eligible for the shingles vaccine until your 80th birthday, unless you have a weakened immune system; people with a severely weakened immune system remain eligible for vaccine.
HPV
The HPV vaccine has been offered to all girls in school year 8 since September 2008. From September 2019, the vaccine has also been offered to year 8 boys. This is because the evidence is clear that the HPV vaccine helps protect both boys and girls from Human Papillomavirus-related cancers.
